Target Value Design Case Study
This
case study introduces learners to the target value design (TVD) process as
implemented on the
design and construction of a large medical complex in Florida. When TVD is
used, project cost is
considered a constraint, and the objective is to design and construct a project
that provides the most
value to the owner for the target price. The general contractor and major
subcontractors are
selected early in the design process to collaborate with the principal
stakeholders when planning
and designing the project. This case study contains two dilemmas regarding cost
and scope management issues that learners
are asked to address. They must consider the facts and circumstances described
and recommend
solutions for the issues presented.
Teaching Notes for the instructor are provided to assist in using the case study. Instructors should send students the downloaded version rather than links to avoid student access to instructor notes.
